NEW Peanut-Free & Gluten-Free Product at Safeway
Monday, April 28, 2008 Nanette Jaeger
Fake Peanut Butter......But How Good Is It Really?
If you or your child suffer from food allergies to peanuts, gluten or wheat, and love peanut butter you know that: A) You miss peanut butter and B)Don't shop the peanut butter aisle but longingly remember the days of PB&J sandwiches.
Just in at Gladstone Safeway is a NEW product called SoyWonder soy nut butter. Does it pass the taste test, you may ask. Is it worthy of spoon dipping straight into an open jar when only something creamy and sweet will do. SoyWonder passed my taste test: nutty flavor, smooth creamy texture, and spreadable on wheat-free crackers and gluten-free bread.
SoyWonder is a sponsor of the Celiac Disease Foundation , an excellent resource for those that are intolerant or allergic to gluten or wheat. Many peanut butters are gluten-free, but if you are living gluten-free you just can't be too careful. On the front of SoyWonder's label is Wheat & Gluten FREE.
You can find SoyWonder in the peanut butter aisle at Safeway.

Fundraiser Tonight for John Wetten Elementary Student
Thursday, April 24, 2008 Nanette Jaeger
Last night at Safeway when I stood in a checkout line, I overheard a woman tell the checker as he rang her up, how much she appreciated the gift cards donated by Safeway. She explained that everything bought with the gift cards would be used for a fundraiser at the elementary school. I noticed this same woman earlier as I shopped, wheeling a full cart, and thought to myself, "Wow, now there's a lot of cookies." (thank you Safeway!)
Tonight please plan on attending a Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction to raise funds for Thomas, a student at John Wetten Elementary fighting bone cancer . Fill up on spaghetti and delicious cookies tonight, and let's help determined and positive Thomas beat this cancer.
Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction
with live music and raffle tickets
Tonight April 24th, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Address:
John Wetten Elementary

Earth Day Green Tips
Tuesday, April 22, 2008 Nanette Jaeger
Today is EARTH DAY
Some folks say, "Every day is Earth Day, I know which planet I live on." Grumpy attitudes aside, I like to have a day on the calendar to appreciate not only the Earth but our town of Gladstone. We're fortunate to have a beautiful river, clean parks, our beloved historical Pow Wow tree, and shops and businesses within walking distance. I often think to myself, why drive to the post office when I can walk. I save gas and create less pollution.
Go Green Tips:
1. Recycle your cell phone. Patronize shops that participate in cell phone recycling programs.
2. Use your own bag to shop. If you don't own a bag, they can be purchased at Fred Meyer and Safeway.
3. Grow vegetables and herbs. You don't need to be a master gardener, a few pots or a small plot will do. Just think, you'll save money and there will be less energy wasted and pollution from food transportation.
4. Turn off that water faucet when you brush your teeth and clean the kitchen.
5. Encourage a young person to conserve and protect the Earth. Our environment depends on it.
"Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders." ---- Henry D. Thoreau
